"He Will Hold Me Fast" (Psalms 55:16) | Soulful Scripture Songs
This song has to be one of my favorite songs on this, “Soulful Scripture Songs” project! I love the thought that, built into the act and invitation of casting our cares on the Lord, we are given His sustaining strength and power. Below is the complete list of scriptures I wrote the song from. Some of these were not read before this particular song.
Musically, I was going for a Motown sound which is basically a more gospel sound. I had written this chord progression and melody a few years ago and was never able to find the lyrics that were meant for it. Then, I read Psalms 55:22 – Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; and I thought, “That’s it!” The 6/8 feel brings both a sense of comfort as we release our fears and boldness as we declare God's promises. I pray it blesses you.
Psalm 55:16-19
As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change—he will hear them and humble them, because they have no fear of God. Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
